A liturgy is a pattern of worship we repeat over and over, hoping that the pattern will draw us into worship and form us in the image of the one we worship.#3 The significance of a family pattern is that it is not just a moment. It is not something you do once and say, Well, that went swimmingly! or, That was rough. It is a routine you practice, whether consciously or unconsciously.#4 The basal ganglia, which are the parts of our brains that perform on autopilot, are the basis of habits. They are the things we do over and over, unconsciously. Habits are the result of these habits. They occupy most of our time and form most of our minds.
