It was not uncommon to see movie stars or maharajahs strolling through the airport. With the introduction of long-range jets, Gander lost its international business.#2 I grew up in a small town in Newfoundland, Canada, in the 1950s. I had a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother. I was not a devoted follower of Christ, but I did what I had to do.#3 I was fascinated with aircraft from a young age. I loved the roar of the engines, the sight of a float plane skimming the surface of the water, and the grace of an eagle. I was in love with aviation.#4 I had the privilege of working with some of the finest old-time aviators, the last of a dying breed. I flew everything I could get my hands on. The days of barnstorming may have been over, but I tasted that rare joy of looking at a new horizon every morning.
